Migori Youth are on the brink of history as they prepare for a decisive National Super League showdown against Mombasa United this Sunday at the Mombasa Sports Club.
The high stakes match will determine which team earns promotion to the Kenyan Premier League, with both sides tied on 64 points after 30 matches. Migori Youth currently sit top of the table on goal difference, making this clash a true title decider.
Speaking ahead of the crucial encounter, Migori Youth chairman Abdi Aziz Osman admitted the match will not be easy but expressed strong confidence in his team.
“We know Sundays game will be very tough because Mombasa United are a strong side. But we are ready for the challenge,” said Osman.
The chairman revealed that the team has treated their recent matches with the seriousness of finals, a strategy he believes has prepared them well for the decisive fixture.
“In the last ten matches, we have been playing every game like a final. That mentality has helped us reach this point, and we believe the players will perform well again,” he added.
Osman also spoke about the club’s plans if they secure promotion, saying Migori Youth are ready to compete at the top level.
“If we get promoted to the Premier League, we will fight hard to avoid relegation and find our place on the league table. Our goal will be to stay competitive and grow as a team,” he said.
Migori Youth head into the match in good form, boosted by a convincing 4-1 win over Nzoia Sugar in their previous game. The team has shown consistency and determination throughout the season, qualities that Osman believes will be key on Sunday.
However, they face a tough opponent in Mombasa United, who have been dominant at home and will be equally determined to secure promotion.
After the Mombasa clash, Migori Youth will play against MOFA on May 10 who are also eyeing promotion.
