APS Bomet boost survival hopes with crucial win over Ulinzi Stars

APS Bomet boost survival hopes with crucial win over Ulinzi Stars

APS Bomet have taken a big step in their fight to avoid relegation after ending a seven-match winless run with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ulinzi Stars at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.

In a tense clash between the police and the military sides, APS Bomet showed determination and discipline to secure all three points when they needed them most.

Coming into the match, APS were struggling in the relegation zone after a difficult run of results. But on Saturday, they turned things around with a strong performance away from home.

The visitors started brightly and created several early chances. Hansel Ochieng came close in the sixth minute with a header from close range, but he could not find the target. He had another opportunity minutes later but again failed to connect with a good cross inside the box.

Despite their dominance, APS had to stay alert at the back. Ulinzi Stars threatened in the 24th minute when Staphord Odhiambo was set up by Paul Okoth, but his effort went wide.

APS continued to push forward, with Festus Kipkemoi also going close after his shot narrowly missed the post in the 29th minute.

Their pressure finally paid off in first-half stoppage time when Anthony Naibei scored to end his goal drought, giving APS a crucial lead heading into the break.

In the second half, APS Bomet changed approach and focused on protecting their advantage. They defended deep and limited Ulinzi’s attacking chances.

Goalkeeper Maxwell Mulili played a key role, making important saves including a strong stop in the 65th minute to deny Okoth’s header from a well-taken free kick by Boniface Muchiri.

Mulili was called into action again in stoppage time, producing another crucial save to ensure APS held on for the win.

The victory sees APS Bomet move to 25 points, level with Ulinzi Stars, and could lift them out of the relegation zone depending on other results.

For APS Bomet, this win could be a turning point in their season as they continue their battle to stay in the Kenyan Premier League.
