Leaders Gor Mahia hope to drown Sharks as KPL battle continues

Leaders Gor Mahia hope to drown Sharks as KPL battle continues

League leaders Gor Mahia will be looking to take another big step towards the Kenyan Premier League title when they face Kariobangi Sharks in one of the standout Easter weekend fixtures.

Under the guidance of head coach Charles Akonnor, K’Ogalo head into the clash at Kasarani on Saturday in red-hot form, having won nine of their last 10 matches and stretching their unbeaten run to 15 games.

The 21-time champions are top of the table with 56 points and will be keen to widen the gap as they push to reclaim the title they lost last season.

Akonnor has brought stability and consistency to the side, and a win against Sharks would further strengthen Gor Mahia’s grip at the summit while moving them closer to another league crown.

However, Kariobangi Sharks will not go down without a fight. Sitting 15th with 25 points, they are battling to avoid relegation and will be desperate for points to boost their survival hopes despite an inconsistent run of results.

Elsewhere, Kakamega Homeboyz will host Mathare United at Bukhungu Stadium. Homeboyz, currently fifth with 42 points, are targeting a move into the top three, while Mathare are aiming to climb away from the lower half of the table.

At the Ulinzi Sports Complex, attention shifts to a tense relegation battle as Ulinzi Stars take on APS Bomet. Ulinzi sit just above the drop zone with 25 points, three ahead of APS Bomet, making this a must-win match for both sides.

Ulinzi will be confident after winning their last two matches and will be chasing a third straight victory, while APS Bomet come into the game under pressure, having gone seven matches without a win.

With the title race heating up and the relegation battle tightening, Saturday’s Premier League fixtures promise high drama across the board.
