Posta Rangers bring down champs Kenya Police to end winless run

Posta Rangers returned to winning ways with a convincing 2-0 victory over defending champions Kenya Police in a Kenyan Premier League match played at Kasarani Annex Stadium on Friday evening.

The important win ended Posta Rangers’ difficult 11-match winless run in the league and marked their first victory since December 8, when they defeated Nairobi United.

The Mailmen made a bright start and took the lead as early as the seventh minute through Jackson Macharia. The forward capitalised on a defensive mistake by the Police backline to slot the ball into an empty net after goalkeeper Daniel Ogembo had been left exposed.

Despite entering the match in good form, Kenya Police struggled to create clear chances in the first half.

Their attacking efforts were limited, with goalkeeper Bixente Otieno only called into action to deal with a couple of long-range free kicks.

In the second half, Police coach Nicholas Muyoti introduced fresh legs in an attempt to turn the game around, but Posta Rangers remained organised and disciplined in defence.

The hosts eventually sealed the victory in the 78th minute when substitute Dinken Mwema scored the second goal. Mwema finished calmly at the back post after a well-delivered corner from Brian Marita.

The result lifts Posta Rangers to 12th place on the league table with 28 points, while Kenya Police remain fifth with 37 points, dealing a blow to their hopes of defending the title.

For Posta Rangers, the victory not only brings relief after a difficult run of results but also offers renewed confidence as the league season continues.
