World champion Odira leads strong field at Kip Keino Classic

World champion Odira leads strong field at Kip Keino Classic

All eyes will be on 800m world champion Lilian Odira as she prepares to compete on home soil at the Kip Keino Classic on April 24 in Nairobi, in what promises to be one of the most exciting races of the meet.

Odira will enjoy home support at the Nyayo Stadium, but she faces a tough challenge in a highly competitive women’s 800m field packed with international talent.

Leading the opposition is Olympic finalist Shafiqua Maloney, who is expected to push the pace and test Odira’s strength in the final lap.

Ethiopia brings serious firepower through a strong duo of Nigist Getachew and Habtam Alemu, both known for their fast finishes and tactical racing.

South Africa’s Ayiwe Hoboloshe will also be in the mix, adding depth to an already strong lineup, while Kenya’s Judy Kemunto completes the field, hoping to make a mark in front of home fans.

With such a stacked lineup, the race is expected to be fast from the gun, with athletes likely to fight hard for position before a dramatic final sprint.

For Odira, the pressure will be on to deliver a big performance in front of a home crowd, but she will also be motivated by the support and familiarity of competing in Nairobi.

The Kip Keino Classic continues to grow in stature as one of Africa’s premier athletics events, attracting top global talent and offering local stars a chance to shine on the international stage.

As race day approaches, excitement is building, and all attention now turns to whether Odira can defend her status against a world-class field on home soil.
